About the Position: Serves as maintenance worker for the Airborne and Special Operations Museum (ASOM) located in downtown Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Duties

Performs duties as a maintenance worker for various types of work to include electrical, AV equipment, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and lighting using common tools and supplies. Maintains status logs for all work and service orders. Makes necessary minor repairs to equipment and tools and makes turn-ins of unserviceable tools and equipment. Coordinates museum maintenance with the Fort Liberty Directorate of Public Works (DPW). Applies a general knowledge and understanding of custodial tasks to provide inspection oversight over contract workers. Operates hydraulic lift equipment and performs maintenance as much as fifty feet off of the ground level.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • May be assigned work on Fort Liberty at the 82d Airborne Division Memorial Museum as the mission requires.
  • May include other travel as directed by the Government.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 100 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties such as washing and scrubbing bathroom floors, washing windows, walls and ceilings. I have the ability to paint and a general knowledge and understanding of custodial tasks. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading)Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKNOWLEDGE OF EQUIPMENT ASSEMBLY, INSTALLATION, REPAIR, ETC.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (Theoretical, precise, artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires extensive walking, standing, bending, and stooping. Occasionally climbs ladders or uses lift devices to perform high cleaning and maintenance operations. Frequently lifts heavy objects such as boxes of cleaning supplies, buckets of liquids and panels or parts removed from equipment for servicing or maintenance. Lifts items weighing up to 100 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee is exposed to hazards of moving parts and sharp blades when working with power tools and exposed belts when performing maintenance on equipment. Exposure to harsh cleaning solutions and chemicals occurs daily. Wear of protective clothing and equipment is required. Work performed from high ladders and platforms requires the use of safety straps.
