About the Position: Serves as the Staff Judge Advocate's liaison and technical support with McDonald Army Health Center (MCAHC). This is a TERM position not to exceed 3 years and may be converted to a permanent appointment.

Duties

Serves as the Staff Judge Advocate's liaison and technical support with McDonald Army Health Center (MCAHC). Identifies potential third party recovery actions by screening medical records, ambulance run sheets, patient questionnaires, military and civilian police records, and other sources. Obtains medical records and billings from civilian health care providers and/or medical facilities to determine the amount the government is entitled to recover. Assists the Paralegal Specialist in the maintenance of information relating to medical malpractice claims to include the acquisition of medical records and reports. May be extended up to a maximum of eight years. Management may select at any of the grade levels announced. This recruitment provides promotion opportunity to the target grade without further competition when selectee is eligible and recommended by management.

  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position has a mandatory immunization screening.
  • This position has a mandatory requirement to be able to drive and operate an administrative use vehicle, and to maintain a valid state vehicle operator’s license.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-06 Level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes clerical or technical customer service; researching and gathering information through medical records, accident reports, insurance statements, police records, and other sources; and experience receiving and processing electronic claims. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Medical Billing or Health Administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. GS-07 Level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing program support in resolving cases that contain payment of medical claims; Experience with medical expense billing practices to obtain information for disputes; Draft legal documents for medical claims; Research medical claims using claims collection guidance and other confidentiality rules. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration, Financial Analysis, Finance, or Health Information Management. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. A Qualified Typist is required. This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
