DUTY LOCATION: Recruiting & Retention (R&R), Middletown, CT
AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION:
Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
Duties
This is an indefinite position that may convert to permanent without further competition.
JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to serve as the Social Media Content Specialist responsible for developing modern and engaging content to support the battalion's engagement strategy for reaching its internal and external audiences as part of the recruiting and retention mission for the ARNG. This position will assist the Marketing and Advertising NCOIC with planning social media strategies and content to communicate the ARNG Recruiting and Retention Command's communication focus areas, priorities and missions at the battalion level. This position will engage with audiences on the battalion's social media platforms, provide content to support Recruiting and Retention Company level social media pages, and will also establish and maintain working relationships with social media counterparts at the Recruiting and Retention headquarters.
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.
The major duties include, but are not limited to:
Applies modern, industry techniques to create engaging social media content to tell the Army's story and communicate Army recruiting priorities on the recruiting battalion's official social media platforms.
Provides or coordinates for social media coverage of major communication events and efforts using the battalion's official social media platforms, including but not limited to, Future Soldier events, educator tours, awards for recruiters, and other key recruiting functions.
Researches new and innovative tools, programs, systems, software, services and social media industry trends to maintain the battalion's currency and relevance with social media efforts and strategies.
Plans and creates multimedia content using graphic design, photo manipulation and video editing software and techniques.
Provides updates to brigade and USAREC headquarters regarding upcoming social media activity to coordinate amplifying coverage at higher levels.
Requirements
- National Guard Membership is required.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
- Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.
- Direct Deposit is mandatory.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- Must possess a valid state drivers license.
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training in administrative, professional, investigative and/or technical work. Experience evaluating information and/or utilizing analytical skills to disseminate effective communication. Experience using computers and automation systems.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 24 months of specialized experience in the following:
Experience, education, or training involving knowledge of writing, communication principles, methods and techniques that relate to the public affairs of an agency.
Experience in applying and adapting knowledge of strictly controlled situations of an agency.
Experience writing articles on routine events of noncontroversial subjects.
Experience responding timely and appropriately to requests for information concerning agency programs and services.
Experience participating in meetings with specialized groups to listen to and understand feedback on agency programs that are of particular interest to public.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the principles, methods, practices and techniques of written and oral communications that allows the employee to apply principles and use engage the battalion's audiences via social media platforms using sound Army Public Affairs practices.
Skill in making oral presentations to various internal and external groups to explain the battalion's use of social media platforms to disseminate the Army's themes and messages.
Skill in establishing and maintaining an effective working relationship with a variety of USAREC staff agencies, the USAREC public affairs community, members of the press, and a wide spectrum of public and private groups who are engaged on social media platforms.
Skill in presenting written ideas through publications, position papers, correspondence, news releases, and a variety of other media.
Ability to convey information clearly, completely and accurately.
Ability to analyze and evaluate a wide variety of input from the brigade, U.S. Army Recruiting Command, and the Army Marketing and Research Group to develop appropriate recommendations and decisions to achieve information objectives.
COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training.

UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any unit within state
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Training at the National Guard Professional Education Center (NGPEC) is a mandatory condition of employment, subject to availability of resources. NGB prescribed courses at NGPEC must be completed within 6 months of assignment to this position. Failure to complete course(s) may result in reassignment or termination of full-time employment unless extenuating circumstances preclude course attendance.
