You will serve as a SUPERVISORY PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST in the PUBLIC OFFICE AFFAIRS DIVISION of NAVAL INFORMATION FORCES.

Duties

You will assign, direct and administer the work to be accomplished by subordinates. You will set short-term priorities and prepare schedules for completion of work. You will prepare performance plans and job objectives, and conducts midterm and annual performance assessments. You will prepare and advocate for individual development plans (IDPs). You will function as the primary assistant to the Public Affair Officer (PAO) to supervise the PA staff. You will oversee and evaluate local, national, and international media relations programs and strategies. You will establish and maintain rapport with representatives of local, regional, national, and international news media organizations. You will assist in developing a two-way dialogue what will enhance understanding of the command’s mission and of Navy IW. You will facilitate use of audio and video products and the communication of complex information on new programs or special areas of command emphasis. You will research and review for technical and factual accuracy, and write news and feature releases for external and internal media. You will establish and maintain direct contact with public officials in support of various on-going and planned PA projects.   • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience serving as a spokesperson conducting media interviews, applying advanced communication and analytical practices, methods and techniques to the solution of complex public affairs problems. Experience advising leadership on the development of communication plans and strategies. Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with local media representatives and community groups. Experience identifying communication needs and developing informational materials to inform internal and external stakeholders of policies, programs, services and activities. Experience coordinating and implementing special events, ceremonies, outreach campaigns, tours, and other activities to generate public awareness of organization's mission.
