You will serve as a Supervisory Firefighter of NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY NORFOLK NSY.

Duties

You will advise on training guidelines for the use of firefighting equipment, procedures, and techniques. You will present fire protection and prevention education or training to employees. You will write reports of fire inspections performed, fire code violations observed, and corrective recommendations offered.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Outside applicants claiming VEOA and VRA (i.e., those without current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service) must meet (specialized experience) requirements equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal Service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. I have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level in the Federal Service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: Managing training evolutions involving fire suppression, EMS operations, and response to hazardous materials incidents; Evaluating the performance in the delivery of basic life support and/or advanced life support including supervision of ground ambulance transportation service; leading others and working as member of a team to accomplish emergency and non-emergency objectives; making sound tactical decision-making and good judgment; demonstrating effective, professional, and outgoing customer service and interaction with the command, the general public and stakeholders; delivering accurate, effective, and professional oral and written communications, particularly internal communications, procedures and correspondence; Operating as a team member in group instruction and certification initiatives such as regional fire academy's and agency group instructional needs. Applicants who are current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service employees must meet specialized experience requirements equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal Service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Fire Officer I/II, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, D/O Pumper, HAZMAT IC, NREMT, and CPR. The following certification, if not already held, must be obtained within 12 months of hire as mandatory condition of position: D/O Aerial, HAZMAT Technician, and Marine Firefighter.
