Serves as an Aviation Safety Assistant (OA) in a Flight Standards field office. Provides administrative, semi-technical, and clerical related support to the supervisor, or manager, Aviation Safety Inspectors (ASIs), and Administrative Officer. Utilizes tools relevant to the Safety Assurance System environment which includes obtaining background data, preparing reports, reviewing applications, interviewing applicants, processing certificates, and maintaining administrative files.

Duties

Processes FAA issued airman certificates such as an FAA designated representative, mechanics, repairmen, flight engineers, and pilots. Interviews applicants to determine qualifications for non-complex certificates. Processes FAA authorizations such as inspection authorization, aircrew program designee, aerobatic competency, etc. Processes FAA issues operator and air agency certificates such as air carrier, repair stations, and approved schools. Examines applications and supporting documents for completeness, consistency of information, and assures correction, if required.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must submit an SF50 (See Required Documents)
  • PCS is not authorized.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-E, FG/GS-6. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is researching, writing, and typing non-technical and routine correspondence, distributing incoming correspondence, general office support, receiving incoming telephone calls, answers technical inquiries, and directing all other incoming calls appropriately.Qualifications must be met by the closing date of this vacancy announcement.In addition to the minimum qualifications, the following has been determined to be a selective factor for this position. This means possession of this criterion is part of the minimum qualifications and is essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Applicants who do not possess this criterion are ineligible for further consideration.Proficient and experienced with routing formal correspondence through the FAA Flight Standards Electronic Records Management Information System (ERMIS). Proficient and familiar with FAA Flight Standards Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) guidelines and directives that apply to an FAA Field Office. Proficient and experienced processing FAA Flight Standards Compliance and Enforcement and investigative records. IMPORTANT: Ensure that your work experience supports your Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA), and Technical Requirements answers. Education

High school diploma or equivalent.
