This position is located in the Fitness Center, Athletic Branch, Recreation Branch, Recreation Division, Recreational Services Department, Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas. The primary function of this position is the maintenance and upkeep of grounds and turf of golf course, to assure that they are always in excellent playing condition.

Duties

Operates tractors, mowers, spreaders, and other equipment, using specific attachments to till, cultivate and grade new turf area. Applies prescribes amounts of fertilizers to designated areas. Mows rough and fairways areas to designated cut, exercising care not to injure turf or shrubs. Cuts turf on greens and tee areas using hand and power mowers. Digs and rakes ground to prepare new greens, set cups, grades and cleans traps. Repairs cart paths and walks using shovels, rakes, spades and other tools. Plants, trims and sprays trees and shrubs. Removes repairs and rotates tires. Lubricates and makes oil filter and oil changes. Repairs and maintains gasoline, battery powered and manual equipment, by disassembling, cleaning, repairing, and d replacing worn or broken parts. Operates shop tools and uses hand tools to sharpen mowers, trimmers and edgers. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
  • Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • You must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
  • May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
  • Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
  • A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
  • Must have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Work requires knowledge and ability to manipulate both tractor and equipment controls at the same time, e.g., operate tractors while raising and lowering gang mowers. Skill in operating boom slope mowers to cut grass on slopes while operating the tractor on level ground or along roads. Knowledge of equipment to make multiple connections from the equipment to the tractor, connecting mechanical drive shafts and hydraulic lines. Skill in performing tasks associated with grounds maintenance. Knowledge of operating characteristics of the tractor and towed or attached equipment. Knowledge of equipment capabilities. Possess or be able to obtain applicable state and/or government driver's licenses. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience.
