You will serve as a POLICE OFFICER in the FORCE PROTECTION PROGRAM (N3), NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY, of NSA ANNAPOLIS SECURITY DETACHMENT. This position does not meet the definition of Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) and is excluded from coverage as LEO for purposes of the Federal Employment Retirment System- base annuity in accordance with 5 CFR, part 842, subpart H.

Duties

You will possess the authority to apprehend personnel, carry a firearm, taser, and Oleoresin spray. You will conduct investigations of crimes and suspected criminal activities. You will enforce traffic regulations and fill out accident reports. You will ensure individuals requesting access to installation have proper credentials, inspect vehicles, and any unusual behavior.

Requirements

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license. Must qualify for and maintain an emergency vehicle operator endorsement.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You are require to graduate from a police academy, specifically the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Uniformed Police Training Program (UPTP).
  • If you have not graduated from this academy prior to this application, the employer will assign the dates and location for you to attend the academy.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Must meet applicable federal and/or state minimum requirements for the assigned installation.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Therefore, we encourage you to be clear and specific when describing your experience. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Knowledge of the local, state, and Federal laws, principles, and procedures used in apprehending a criminal suspect, including policies for pursuit and proper use of force and detention.; 2) Conducts investigations related to critical incidents (i.e., traffic accidents, domestic violence, assaults, child abuse/neglect) in accordance to policies and procedures; 3) Interviews witnesses to gather information about incidents; and 4) Knowledge of firearm usage and related issues, such as ammunition, range regulations, maintenance, and safety.
