About the Position: This position is located at This position is located at USAJFK Special Warfare Center & School, Assistant Chief of Staff, at Fort Liberty, North Carolina. Fort Liberty is a culturally diverse area with both rural and city populations, co-located at Fayetteville, North Carolina, centrally located in the beautiful state of North Carolina, which enjoys a temperate year-round climate and world-renowned colleges and universities.

Duties

Disassembles weapons, assemblies, subassemblies and other components, examines for defects, mechanical misalignment and malfunctions. Replaces barrels, firing pins, springs, trigger mechanisms, shell ejectors, sights, safety devices, bolts, stocks and other parts and assemblies; modified small weapons. Makes initial diagnosis and locates mechanical deficiencies and malfunctions in automatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, carbines, automatic rifles, submachine and machine guns, mortars, recoilless rifles, and rocket launchers. Observes all safety rules, regulations and procedures. Repairs national match weapons including glass bedding.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Incumbency of this position is limited to persons who have not had a conviction of domestic violence under the Lautenberg Agreement to the Gun control Act of 1968 (18 U.S.C. 922).
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY)is required 5% of the time.
  • Required to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Required to wear protective equipment such as respirators, safety glasses, etc.
  • Required to refrain from the use of illegal drugs and submit to a pre-employment drug screening and random testing thereafter to obtain and maintain employment in this position.
  • Required to obtain and maintain eligibility for this position based on the provisions of the Lautenberg Amendment?
  • Required to serve a one-year probationary period.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a SMALL ARMS REPAIRER without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform simple tasks on standard and non-standard small arms. Ability to assemble and disassemble standard and non-standard small arms under the supervision of a team lead. Use basic shop mathematics; apply finishing agents to standard and non-standard small arms to increase strength and durability; assist with modification of design; use welder equipment to modify non-standard small arms and non-standard small arms parts and tools. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Trouble Shooting Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT: Lifts subassemblies or small weapons weighing 15 to 20 pounds. Often carries large assemblies or weapons weighing up to 50 pounds. Work requires walking, bending, and long periods of standing. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in shop buildings that are well lighted, heated, and ventilated. Stands on concrete floors or other hard surfaces for long periods. Is exposed to oil, grease and solvents when cleaning and lubricating weapons. Is frequently exposed to the possibility of minor cuts and bruises from tools or sharp edges of metal. Is subject to noise when test firing weapons. Welding involves exposure to fumes, infrared and ultraviolet radiation, heat, flying sparks, the glare of torches and heated materials, the possibility of eye injury, electrical shock, burns, broken bones, and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. Wears safety equipment and protective clothing, gloves, and flash shield or eye goggle, etc. as issued the employer. .
