This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Southern Plains Region, Horton Agency in Horton, Kansas.

Duties
Responsible for providing a wide variety of office/clerical support and administrative services to the Agency.
Receive telephone calls and visitors, determine nature of request and/or visit, upon determination of business and based on information received, incumbent provides assistance or refers to the supervisor or subordinate staff as appropriate, screens and handles those which can be handled without supervisor's assistance.
Maintain appointment calendars for the Superintendent; schedule conferences, meetings and appointments; gathering all pertinent information for supervisor and /or staff.
Receive request for information regarding Agency program's and based on knowledge or program and the Agency office files; assemble any materials in relation to requests and follow up ensuring requests are within the specified timeframes
Receive materials for documentation or processing forms; material may be provided by rough draft, brief written or oral instructions, corrected or final form.
Responsible for accuracy and appropriateness of codes and regulatory authorities in relation to the intended purpose.
Review and edit correspondence prepared for supervisor; check spelling, grammatical content, and conformance to formats and procedural requirements.
Provide advice and information on office operations such as time and attendance, leave, reporting and correspondence procedures.
Perform timekeeping duties.

Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, GS-0901).
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-6: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level. Examples of specialized experience includes but not limited to: read incoming correspondence, screen items to be handled personally, and forward the remainder to the appropriate staff; receive requests for information, advise when the information can be furnished, and provide authorized information from files and records or follow up with others to see that non-routine information is provided; prepare routine correspondence; schedule meetings and manage office calendar; and requisitioning supplies, equipment and services for the office staff. These examples are not all inclusive (refer to the summary of duties for specialized experience).
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS: In addition to meeting the experience or education requirements, for all positions titled as Office Automation or any clerical positions which has parenthetical title of Office Automation (OA), applicants must have typing proficiency of 40 words per minute (wpm) and knowledge of general office automation software such as, word processing, personal computer, electronic mail, database management, spreadsheet, etc. Failure to provide OA proficiency will result in loss of consideration. Applicants may meet the office automation requirement by passing the appropriate test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office or by self-certifying their proficiency.

One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must send a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript in order to receive credit for that education which shows the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
