This position will be filled in one of the following locations: Rawlins, Rock Springs, Kemmerer, or Pinedale, WY. Click on the location links for more information regarding the surrounding area.
NOTE - There is only one vacancy being filled.
Duties
Operates gasoline or diesel powered engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler type traction, such as road graders, excavators, backhoes, trench diggers, etc.
Uses equipment to transfer material into dump trucks and clear brush, tree stumps, and rocks.
Complete minor maintenance projects such as cleaning culverts and ditches; clearing brush and other debris from roads and/or firelines; installing cattle guards, culverts, signs, and/or fences; removing snow, etc.
Lead, train, and/or mentor other employees in the operation of engineering equipment in flat or rolling environments on an intermittent and non-continuing basis only.
Perform routine/minor preventative maintenance, repairs, and safety inspections on engineering equipment and/or motor vehicles.
Position requires incumbent to wear all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) associated with the job.
Requirements

- Appointment will be subject to a favorably adjudicated background/suitability investigation/determination. Failure to possess or obtain a favorable determination will result in the cancellation of the offer or will be grounds for termination.

- Applicant(s) tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use and to pass the test prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
- This position may require regular and recurring overtime and shift work during peak fire season.
- May require completion of a one year probationary period.
- You must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Class A, B, or C Endorsement.
Qualifications
OPM Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining applicant's qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, the applicant must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in the resume materials, that they possess the skill level that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Effort: Heavy physical effort is required in constantly climbing in and out of different machines, and pushing and pulling levers continuously while machine is in operation. Work is strenuous because of the equipment operated, and the adjustments made. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating the equipment. The incumbent is required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds and often puts forth similar effort when pushing, pulling, turning, and positioning equipment and tools.
Working Conditions: The operation of gasoline or diesel powered engineering and construction equipment increases
exposure and risk of injury. The incumbent works both inside and outside and is exposed to hot and humid weather and/or extremely cold weather with temperatures ranging from below 0 to above 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Ice, road oils, and other items such as loose gravel and rocks may create hazardous conditions. The operator is subjected to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, oils, solvents, and fumes from motors and exhausts. When working inside, the incumbent must ensure proper ventilation to minimize fumes caused by equipment or vehicles. The incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, abrasions, bruises and strains while operating equipment.
