You will serve as a Hazardous Waste Disposer in the Environmental Division, NWS Earle, NJ This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Duties

You will collect, transport, handle, repackage, store, and prepare hazardous waste for disposal shipment in accordance with environmental and DOT regulations. You will inspect hazardous waste storage locations for compliance with storage guidelines or local instructions. You will maintain inventory logs and inspection forms of materials submitted. You will serve as a member of the station emergency spill response team and assist in cleanup of hazardous material spills. You will operate various governmental vehicles including forklifts and trucks to relocate waste containers.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CDL license with Haz-Mat endorsement within 6 months of employment.
  • May be designated as Alpha personnel and as such will be required when contacted to respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Must have received 40-hour initial training in RCRA Hazardous Waste Management, OSHA Hazwoper, and DOT Hazardous Materials Transportation or be able to complete the required training within 6 months of employment.
  • Must participate in the respiratory protection program and maintain respirator certification..

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of the a Hazardous Waste Disposer without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by: 1) Transporting hazardous waste containers to the hazardous waste facilities; 2) Identifying hazardous waste and hazardous spill residues to ensure hazardous waste is properly accumulated, stored, and manifested; 3) Processing hazardous waste for storage and disposal; 4) Performing waste sampling; 5) Operating material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks and waste transport trucks; 6) Identifying, packaging, and transporting hazardous waste according to RCRA and DOT requirements; 7) Responding to oil and hazardous material spill incidents and providing cleanup services and 8) Inspections of hazardous waste storage areas to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
