About the Position: Serves as Supervisor over the Directorate's Storage Branch. The employee directs the work of the branch and is responsible for the internal movement and storage of all commercial shipping and receiving and any associated functions.

Duties

Plans weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for container handling blocking and bracing, wood working, and railroad operations. Establishes deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules, methods, and policies. Selects workers and assigns tasks to be performed. Explains work requirements, methods, and procedures; instructs subordinates in new procedures; and provides advice when problems arise. Develops performance standards, counsels employees on their performance, and makes formal and informal performance appraisals. Interviews candidates for vacancies, and makes selections. Finds and implements ways to eliminate or reduce bottlenecks and barriers to production. Provide updates on the Depot vision and direction so teams can use the information to generate new ideas, priorities and goals.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
  • Subject to drug testing IAW AR 600-85.
  • Must be cleared IAW requirements of AR 190-11, Physical Security of Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives (AA/E).
  • Secret clearance required.

This includes experience with MILVAN container handling operations; Operation of truck-tractors with semi-trailers and Strad-O-Lift trailers to haul explosives, munitions, and components. Performing blocking and bracing on boxcars, flatcars and truck trailers. Performing wood working to build crates and staying devices. Operating forklifts to transport ammunition and/or explosives. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles)Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)Ability To Lead or SuperviseAbility To Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle)Operation of Motor VehiclesReliability And DependabilityWork Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Physical effort: Subject to continuous physical strain from simultaneously manipulating many levers and controls; from lifting and handling heavy containers, from vibrations caused by the container handler; and from jerking and jolting motions while lifting and moving loads.-Work involves continuous climbing, reaching, bending, and twisting of body. Requires lifting, positioning, and carrying items up to 40 pounds while loading and unloading cargo. May occasionally lift heavier items with assistance. Moderate physical effort is required to make truck-tractor and semi-trailer connections. There is continuous physical activity in reaching, bending, turning, or moving feet and legs to manipulate controls. Subject to cuts, scratches, and bruises from loading or unloading vehicles. Subject to possible serious injury resulting from traffic accidents. Is required to work on concrete floors. Work is performed where there is unpleasant dust, dirt, fumes, and noise from truck operations. May wear masks, gloves, goggles, and rubber boots, as appropriate. Working Conditions: Equipment is operated outside during periods of extreme heat and cold from a cab that is enclosed. Operator is subject to noise, dirt, dust, and fumes and is exposed to danger from moving machinery and the overturning of the container handler. Accomplishment of duties requires the wearing of protective clothing such as safety shoes, glasses, coveralls, etc. There is a chance of injuries ranging from loss of life to burns, cuts, bruises, strains, and nausea.
