About the Position: This Geodetic Technician position is located at U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center (ATC), Warfighter Directorate, Sensors & Soldier Perf Division (AJM)with duty location of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

Duties

Analyze and evaluate data based on various datums and grid systems, especially when data origins are vague, old, fragmentary, or of insufficient accuracy. Deliver various geodetic technical services, including the acquisition, analysis, processing, and computation of geodetic data. Serve as the preeminent employee for ensuring that Direct Test Support, Modernization, Customer, and Improvement and Modernization programs requiring geodetic support, are concluded expeditiously. Participates in planning conferences to assess test requirements, relevant conditions, required accuracies, and desired instrumentation coverage. Serve as a senior technician with the responsibility for the overall operation, planning, direction and conduct of the civil engineering field support mission of the Geodetic Branch. Responsible for coordinating work requirements, setting internal priorities, making recommendations for job assignments, reviewing data for accuracy.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance through the duration of your employment.
  • The incumbent of this position must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • This position requires the employee to occasionally travel away from the normal duty station up to 25% of the time.
  • This position requires a pre-employment and annual physical examination.
  • Position requires incumbent must be able to attain and retain a license to operate government motor vehicles and equipment up to 26,000 pounds.
  • Position requires participation in the Medical Surveillance Program.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) experience setting up, align, operate, and/or maintain precision surveying equipment such as electronic and mechanical theodolites, robotic total stations, digital levels, high-definition scanners (HDS), and geodetic grade GPS surveying systems; (2) experience providing various geodetic technical services, such as analysis, processing, and computation of geodetic data. and 3) experience establishing final grid and geographic coordinates for control networks. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower level/grade position in the federal service (NJ-03/GS-11).
