About the Position: The incumbent is responsible for performing a wide range of work involved in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and calibration of electronic controls, indicating and recording systems, electrical wiring systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment used on lock and dam machinery and facilities, drainage and flood control structures, office and shop buildings, floating plant and equipment, recreational facilities, and engineering equipment.

Duties

This announcement is for an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic, WG-2606-11, within the Maintenance Section located in Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Install highly complex electronic systems and devices that are integral in the operation of machinery at locks and dams. Develop schematics, drawings, and maintenance procedures for troubleshooting electronic equipment. Modify system devices to improve the operation of equipment/systems. Program logic circuits to correct failures or meet changing operational conditions. Splice underground and above ground electric and telephone cables.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A medical examination is required. If selected, satisfactory completion of a medical examination is required before assignment to the position.
  • Must possess a valid State motor vehicle operator's license for the class of vehicle being operated based on site specific, job related requirements, and must maintain this license.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electronic Inustrial Controls Mechanic without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience and/or show the ability to perform common involved in installation and maintenance to include troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating electronic controls, indicating and recording systems, electrical wiring systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment used on lock and dam machinery and facilities, drainage and flood control structures, etc. Work is performed under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly formed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element)Ability To Use Hand and Power Tools - ElectronicsKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Theory of ElectronicsUse of Test Equipment: Electronics Physical Effort: Climbs and works in high places and in confined areas, some requiring a permit. Work frequently requires pushing, pulling, carrying and lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequently requires standing, walking, climbing to include towers, kneeling and bending. Work Conditions: Works outside and inside on structures in all weather extremes. Subject to electrical shock, cuts, bruises, burns and danger of falling overboard. Incumbent may be exposed to dirt and grease, noise, odors, fumes and smoke. Employees are required to follow established safe working procedures. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided to minimize or reduce hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.
