About the Position: This is an Engineering Technician GS-0802-07 position with USACE Little Rock District, Operations Division. This position is located in Pine Bluff, AR. This position can be filled at the GS-05 (with promotion potential to the GS-06 then to the GS-07); or, at the GS-06 (with promotion potential to the GS-07); or at the full performance GS-07. Promotion to the next grade is at the discretion of management.
This position is exclusively represented by Local 2107 IBEW AFLCIO.
Duties
Perform computations and compile reports or specification data from basic topographic and hydrographic survey data supplied by the Area Offices.
Perform a variety of duties such as extracting data from electronic data gathering instruments, computations, drafting, plotting and other work required for the maintenance of maps and records, preparation of reports, and payment estimates.
Perform hydrographic survey to assess the condition of the channel or other waterway
Check survey note for accuracy, involving computation of triangulation and grid points, adjusting level notes, traverse closures, etc.
Recommend sequence and scheduling of surveys to meet priority and urgency or requirement of work to be done
Compile and assemble basic maps or drawings of the areas involved
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain and maintain a current and valid state driver's license.
- Required to operate a 23' survey boat in the performance of duties. A boat operator's license is not required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Drug Test and annual testing.

For the GS-05:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes both of the following: 1) Answer telephone inquiries; and 2) Use data systems to maintain files and records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
For the GS-06:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 2 of the following: 1) Gather data for reports; OR 2) Read established surveys; OR, 3) Prepare draft notices to navigation for publication. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
For the GS-07:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience includes 3 of the following: 1) Compile monthly progress information on contracts, labor dredging etc. OR 2) Maintain financial records for compliance; OR 3) Perform computations using geometry and trigonometry to prepare sketches and drawings for new and dredging maintenance; OR 4) Prepare hydrographic reports as revealed by latest survey data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
For the GS-06 & GS-07: Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
