This position is under the direct supervision of the Supervisory Optometrist for the Wanblee Health Center. The incumbent will provide technical duties in support of the optometry clinic, eyeglass dispensary, and retinal imaging care.
Duties
Clerical receptionist duties, appointment management.
Routine Patient Care, variety of optometric and ophthalmic procedures.
Optical Dispensary, verify prescription to corrective lenses and fitting.
Patient and Staff Education.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR)
In order to meet the basic requirement of 0640 occupational series, applicants must have technical experience in support to healthcare providers using knowledge, methods, and techniques under the supervision of a specialty provider.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-05: One (1) year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: assisting patients to complete information forms, provide instructions and informative optometry program benefits, schedule yearly checkup appointments, perform routine patient history questionnaire and record patient date into a health record, preform variety of routine optometric and ophthalmic procedures.
OR
Four (4) year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study OR at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position.
OR
Combination education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position.
GS-06: One (1) year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: coordinate referrals specialty referrals through clinic procedures for approval, transpose treatment plan into patient data record, review patient files for discrepancies, determine severity of patient urgency, perform test procedures for visual acuity, calibration of optometry equipment, perform optometry screening test to capture visual acuity, vision fields, color vision, retinal photography, document ocular diseases.
GS-07: One (1) year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples include: validate information within patient record, confirm appointment and treatment prescribed, perform difficult and advanced optometric and ophthalmic procedures, calibrate optometry equipment and instruments for optometrist, sterilization of instruments, assist in photo-documentation, repair or refurbish damaged frames, order optometry supplies and tools, and provide optometry education to patients and developing staff.
OR
One (1) full year graduate education leading to such degree related to optometry.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
