You will serve as a CARPENTER in the Public Works Division of NAVFAC NORTHWEST.

Duties

You will determine the tools, machinery, and equipment needed to complete carpentry work projects. You will measure for layouts required to construct wood structures. You will use standard measuring instruments (e.g., rulers, carpenter's square, levels) for carpentry projects. You will plan and lay out work from instructions (e.g., blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, work orders) to construct and maintain facilities. You will construct items made of wood or wood substitute (e.g., framework, windows, trusses, rafters) to maintain fit and alignment.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to do the work of CARPENTER without more than normal supervision performing duties such as: (Screen-out WG-09) : 1) Using measuring tapes, squares, levels ,and other carpentry tools to plan, lay out, measure, and cut materials according to dimensional requirements; 2) Assisting in carrying out assigned work in accordance with instructions and specifications; and 3) Using various types of nails, screws, and bonding materials. For applicants applying for the WG-07: The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to do the work of CARPENTER without more than normal supervision performing duties such as: (Screen-out WG-07) 1) Using various tools and equipment associated with the carpentry trade; 2) Assisting in carrying out assigned work in accordance with instructions and specifications; and 3) Reading sketches, work orders, and basic blueprints to complete a job.
