The FBI's Finance and Facilities Division (FFD) has an exciting opportunity for Electronic Technicians (ET) to play a crucial role in supporting the FBI's facility management program. Candidates will provide adept assistance for Access Control, Intrusion Detection, and Closed-Circuit TV systems. An ideal candidate will have experience inspecting, testing, and repairing electronic equipment, coupled with the ability to effectively communicate technical guidance.

Duties

GS-07 Performs installations and maintenance of complex communications systems/networks, and intrusion detection systems. This can include but not limited to various areas of specialization and functional areas of electronic surveillance, data networks, video systems, audio systems, wireless, networking, electronic security, and data/voice encryption devices. Assists in the delivery, installation, and maintenance of unique and innovative systems. Participates in repairing and configuring technical equipment. Communicates effectively in both verbal and written communication to both peers and management. This will also include the ability to perform basic research to identify and determine best practices for maintaining, repairing, and seeking out new technological equipment. GS-09 Network management for Data, Access Control, Intrusion Detection, Building Automation, and Closed-Circuit TV. Inspects, tests, and repairs electronic equipment and systems to ensure technical integrity. Basic approaches to resolve technical problems with conventional equipment. Follow and comply with national standards and policies relating to complex electronic equipment, communication systems, and regulatory guidelines. Performs duties on any of the following areas: Electronic surveillance, intrusion detection, electronic communication systems, local/wide area networks, electronic security. Knowledge of field electronics as it relates to secure communications.

Qualifications

GS-7: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level. SE is defined as follows: Experience with electronic principles and practices. Experience in electronics technology engineering concepts and skill to replace electrical equipment if needed. GS-9: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level. SE is defined as follows: Experience communicating technical guidance and suggesting modifications related to the installation of major components of communications and intrusion detection systems. Experience identifying errors on circuit board, modifying components, and repairing a variety of electronic systems while utilizing specialized test equipment.

Education

All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

GS-7: Applicant must have a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or one (1) full year of graduate level education. Superior academic achievement is the completion of all the requirements of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average of 3.0 or higher as recorded on an official transcript, or as based on courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum, or (3) honor society membership.

GS-9: Applicant must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

Degrees must be in one of the following fields: Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, Networking, Telecommunications, or Computer Science.
