The primary purpose of this position Electrician, WG-2805-11 is to install, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain various highly complex electrical, electronic and integrated systems, controls, and equipment at Hill AFB and Little Mountain Test Complex.

Duties

Install, repair or replace, modify, fabricate, load, and test new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers, and controls located in and near installation buildings and structures. Troubleshoot problem areas and inspect for defective equipment and faulty wiring. Design and plan jobs from the start to include all material and personnel needed to complete. Use and maintain various types of hand and/or power tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, cable pullers, hydraulic benders, and pipe threading machines. Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to include OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration, NEC (National Electrical Code) and NFPA 70 E (National Fire Protection Association) and maintain a safe and clean work environment. Work on nonstandard industrial or research and development applications which lack clear precedent and require extensive adaptation of methods.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2800 Electrical Installation and Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of Electrical Equipment 2. Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices 3. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) 4. Ability to Use Electrical Drawings 5. Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) 6. Trouble shooting (Electrical)1. Knowledge of Electrical Equipment PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Demands: Make repairs from work stands and other hard-to-reach places. Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts items that weigh over 40 pounds with assistance from other workers. Working Environment: Work both inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather and in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy. May work on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 or more feet, or in close quarters such as manholes or attics. Subject to electric shock, cuts, and bruises. May be exposed to temperature extremes in test facilities, extremely high noise levels, and exposure to lead, radiation, chemicals, or carcinogens.
