This vacancy is for a Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic in the Office of Facilities and Environmental Quality, Office of Facilities and Environmental Quality (OFEQ) within the Department of Commerce.
Duties
As a Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots specialized equipment, ensuring optimal performance, energy efficiency, and user satisfaction.
Installs, modifies, maintains, and repairs a variety of building HVAC systems, including the Chilled Water Production Facility in the HCHB.
Develops and implements preventative maintenance programs for building HVAC systems, ensuring the reliability and longevity of equipment and infrastructure.
Tracks, schedules, and documents all installation, maintenance, and repair activities, ensuring efficient work order management and accurate recordkeeping.
Collaborates with other departments and contractors on projects requiring HVAC system expertise, ensuring proper integration of building systems into the overall building design and operation.
Conducts regular inspections and assessments of building HVAC systems to identify potential hazards, maintenance issues, or performance improvements, and develops corrective action plans as needed.

Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C and evaluated under OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume.
Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which appears as a question in the on-line questionnaire. Applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable of the screen out are given further consideration and those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Your qualifications will be evaluated against the following screen out:
Ability to Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision operating, maintaining, and repairing of nonstandard and highly advanced Heating Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) systems in large commercial buildings.
AND
A Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Refrigerant Certification (Type I, II, III or Universal) is required upon hire or within one year of employment.
A Stationary Engineers license or equivalent is highly preferred.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
