The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of production planning and scheduling tasks in direct support of major maintenance programs such as the repair, overhaul, and/or modification of complex weapon systems to include aircraft, engines, support equipment, and other major end items.

Duties

Develops maintenance plans for assigned aircraft and associated equipment. Implements maintenance plans through the development and publication of maintenance schedules to include scheduled and unscheduled repair and/or overhaul actions, time-sensitive inspections or modifications, component time change replacement and aircraft or system inspections. Develops preliminary operational schedules (utilization plans) and provides the Operations Group with an estimate of maintenance support capability to meet operational requirements. Responsible for maintaining Data Documentation to include Aircraft Maintenance Historical Documentation, Aircraft Jacket Files and Aircraft Document Reviews. Coordinates the implementation of the Time Compliance Technical Order (TCTO) Program, to include the application of individual TCTOs. Serves as Aerospace Vehicle Distribution Officer (AVDO) to include the overall responsibilities for the maintenance and reporting of aircraft inventory and status/utilization for all assigned aircraft. Monitors configuration management of the unit aircraft. Provides unit managers the capability to determine the actual versus approved configuration of an aircraft or equipment.

  • Successful completion of US Air Force Maintenance Scheduling School or three years of aircraft scheduling in a high tempo-flying environment
  • May be required to travel on commercial or government airlines for TDY purposes
  • May be required to fill in as Engine Production Controller as needed
  • Must have Integrated Maintenance Data Systems (IMDS) experience

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the Specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative support positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes Knowledge of recurring manufacture, overhaul, or repair of products or projects using multiple-process production methods and procedures to develop plans and information necessary for the control of complex products such as airframes of fixed and rotary wing aircraft or a variety of complex and long-term facility repair and construction projects. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE NON-FEDERAL EMPLOYEES: At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-08) or equivalent. Specialized experience must include Knowledge of recurring manufacture, overhaul, or repair of products or projects using multiple-process production methods and procedures to develop plans and information necessary for the control of complex products such as airframes of fixed and rotary wing aircraft or a variety of complex and long-term facility repair and construction projects. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in­-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of Air Force aircraft maintenance organization and established production methods, processes, labor, machinery, manpower, and material requirements for the repair, overhaul, and/or modification of a variety of complex aircraft and commodity items coupled with the ability to plan, schedule, and take corrective action to meet emergency and regular work load requirements. 2. Knowledge of and ability to interpret military aircraft and manufacturing terminology, technical orders, data, standards and instructions, and to relate them properly to the particular control projects assigned in preparing production plans and schedules and in maintaining effective follow-up. 3. Knowledge of maintenance organizational structures and skill in the distribution of personnel to obtain a balance in workload. 4. Knowledge of and skill in the use of automated maintenance information systems and aircraft maintenance documentation processes to collect, compile, and correlate production data from a variety of sources and use that data to determine compliance status of scheduled maintenance, inspection, and modification actions 5. Ability to correlate and analyze a variety of routine production data, technical manuals, and directives to determine applicability, as well as to utilize Microsoft office suite in order to present historical trends and forecasts to leadership. 6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
