This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & MRTFB in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned and-operated manufacturing center located in New York.
Duties
Sets up, operates and performs preventive maintenance on several types of sandblasting machines and equipment such as large cleaning chambers, rotary tables, cabinets and tumblers.
Selects the proper types of abrasive media for best results on large, complex components and items of brass, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, iron and other alloy type steels.
Selects and applies proper masking material for blasting specified areas when tolerances and finishes must be maintained.
Occasionally operates small rotary, cabinets and tumbler types sandblasting machines to clean rust scale and residue from forgings, minor components and high speed tools.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position involves duties which are subject to Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations regarding hazardous wastes.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position
- This position may require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Sandblaster~ without more than normal supervision. (1) Using various tools to remove tar, scale, paint; (2) Making minor air pressure adjustments to regulate media flow for the job; and (3) Cleaning and maintaining sandblasting equipment. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work is performed in standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching and awkward positions for prolonged periods.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposed to variations in temperature, illumination d ventilations noise, dust, flying abrasives and slag. Wears air feed hood, protective gloves, ear protection, safety shoes, glasses and respirators as required.
