You will serve as a RIGGER in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will lift and carry loads following lifting techniques to prevent injury. You will collaborate with coworkers and other supervisors to maintain work progress to meet work schedules. You will exercise safety precautions to avoid unnecessary exposure to hazards and injury. You will assemble and repair nets, pendants, slings, and other rigging gear used for day-to-day operations.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • May be required to operate a hand-held radio and must be able to communicate clearly and precisely.

  • May be required to qualify for and maintain current licensing and special certification for other activities such as aerial work on platforms, operating forklifts, and/or handling of explosives and hazardous materials if/when such work is required.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Selecting and installing weight handling gear for ships and other facilities used in lifting, moving, and positioning a variety of large and heavy objects; 2) Operating equipment such as chain falls, gin poles, tackle blocks, gallows frames, forklifts, small crafts, and/or other motorized mobile equipment; 3) Cutting, splicing, assembling, repairing, installing, standing, and running rigging in accordance with specifications, instructions, or work orders; 4) Assisting with the testing of lift/handling equipment to comply with environmental, security and safety protocols. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
