About the Position: This position serves as an instructor providing formal instructional classes to military and civilian students explosives safety management, transportation of hazardous materials, characteristics of ammunition and explosives, and preservation and packaging of Department of Defense assets.
Duties
Serve as an instructor developing, preparing and presenting formal instructional classes to world-wide locations relating to explosives safety, transportation of hazardous materials, packaging and ammunition logistics, and chemical surety.
Conduct lectures, conferences, case studies, demonstrations, practical exercises, examinations and critiques for assigned courses.
Provide advice on explosives safety, material readiness, logistics, explosives safety stockpile reliability, and chemical surety.
Provide academic counseling to students.
Conducts research, identifies and develops new concepts, principles and techniques for advancing ammunition and hazardous materials technology and integration of new ammunition items.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations 20% of the time.
- The position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain Safety and Occupational Health Management Career Program (CP)-12 Explosives Safety Professional Certificate Levels I and II and complete refresher requirements.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience such as:
Experience interpreting and applying explosives safety and physical security regarding Class V material;
Experience applying instructional methodologies and instructional techniques;
Experience with the technical aspects of munitions in order to understand the specialized terms and requirements associated with the specialized fields of explosives safety; and
Experience developing instructional materials.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
