Duties

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Office of the Secretary, Indian Arts & Crafts Board, Museum of the Plans Indian (MPI), Browning, MT. At the full performance level (GS-09) the major duties of this position include but are not limited to the following: Plans and execute the museums exhibitions. Responsible for the documentation, care, and preservation, and use of the MPI collections. Responsible for overseeing the MPI's outreach and education programs. Responsible for maintenance of the historic and contemporary files. Responsible for overseeing the daily maintenance and physical care of the facility. Responsible for procurement of supplies, materials, and equipment and providing input to budget. Oversees Museum Staff. The Indian Arts & Crafts Board has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster. Salary Range Information: GS-09: $59,966 to $77,955 per annum First time hires to the federal government typically start at the beginning salary in the range for their respective grade level. This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must meet the (1) Basic Educational Requirements AND/OR (2) Specialized Experience for the series/grade to which you are applying. To qualify for this position you must meet the Basic Educational Requirements AND Specialized Experience OR Education for the series/grade to which you are applying. Basic Educational Requirements: Degree: Museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. OR Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown in A. above. AND Specialized Experience To qualify for the GS-09, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: MUST MEET BOTH TO QUALIFY 1. Experience in maintaining a museum facility or art gallery. 2. Experience working with museum collections and exhibitions. OR Education: 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. OR Combination of Education and Experience. Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience that totals 100% of the requirement for the GS-09 grade level. NOTE: If you are substituting education for experience, you MUST submit your transcripts for verification of education. Failure to submit transcripts will result in an "ineligible" rating. Indian Preference Policy: Preference in filling this vacancy is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC, Section 472). Verification Forms BIA 4432 must be submitted with the application prior to the closing date of the announcement, if claiming Indian Preference. Applicants selected under the Indian preference from this vacancy will be appointed under the Excepted Service, Schedule A 213.3112(a)(7) appointing authority.
