Duties

Provide general and focused respiratory protection testing, data management and recommendations for Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and tenant organizations. Assist in developing and managing occupational health and environmental health related data. Under the general supervision of a senior industrial hygienist, execute the industrial respirator and gas mask fit testing program in accordance with Federal OSHA and Air Force regulations and guidance. Accurately prepare reports for review by higher level personnel. Evaluate adequacy of operating instructions, plans, and rules and recommends changes. Confer with a senior industrial hygienist in developing or maintaining specialized computer applications to include databases, spreadsheets and web-based applications.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Assisting in Occupational Health or Environmental Health duties, such as conducting work experience in any of the following, reviewing compliances, creating or reviewing reports, conducting surveys, reviewing studies, collect sampling, compiling data and evaluating deficiencies or hazards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as, Environmental Health, Biology and Chemistry or similar field of study. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
