Duties

In addition to clinical practice, the APN role includes education, research, and consultation. The APN functions within a scope of practice commensurate with training, demonstrated expertise, and licensure. The Nurse Practitioner will function in the Community Living Center section of the Geriatrics, Extended Care and Rehabilitation Service. The Nurse Practitioner must possess a broad-based clinical knowledge to effectively manage acute and chronic illnesses of resident residing in the Community Living Center. The Nurse Practitioner works with the Geriatric Attending Physician to care for residents who require a dynamic array of treatments in the CLC including short-stay rehabilitation, short-stay IV therapies, complex wound care, long-stay continuing care, long-stay mental health, and long-stay dementia residents. The Nurse Practitioner works in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team which includes Nurses, Social Work, Psychologist, Dieticians, Recreation Therapists, Physical Therapist, Chaplain, Occupational Therapist as well as consultative services from other medical and surgical disciplines. Duties include admission history and physical, comprehensive monthly round visits with Nursing, Pharmacy and the attending physician, and acute visits to residents as conditions warrant.VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Preferred Experience: 2-3 years of NP experience preferred. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard.
