About the Position: This position, located in the Mike O'Callaghan Military Medical Center at the 99th Medical Group, Nellis Air Force Base, is comprised of around 1,400 personnel who are dedicated to providing preventive, emergency and acute care services for approximately 22,000 active duty personnel, their dependents and more than 40,000 retirees, their dependents and other eligible beneficiaries.
Duties
Conduct exterior/interior patrols on foot and/or in vehicles to maintain a presence at all times and secure premises.
Monitor interior and exterior surveillance cameras/alarms for unusual or suspicious activities.
Observe persons to detect suspicious or abnormal behavior and deter when probable cause exists.
Respond to security breaches, potential threats and alarms to investigate or assess incident and resolve.
Provide escort to patients and/or visitors to and from facilities to ensure safety and ease of access.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a secret security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
- Must pass an initial physical agility test (PAT) comprised of running, jumping, pushups, and an agility course in accordance with AFI 31-118,Security Forces Standards and Procedures.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires incumbent to be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate all vehicles and installed equipment.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- Required to undergo training for effective patient-centered aggression management in dealing with patients or visitors with varying degrees of physical/mental illness or under the influence of drugs/alcohol to protect patients and staff.
- Employee is required to participate in the Medical Employee Health Program.
- May be required to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- The incumbent is required to maintain a high standard of conduct; and will be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program to show they can work effectively under pressure or emergency conditions with a positive attitude toward his/her duties.
- This position requires incumbent to complete a pre-employment physical, physical agility, and psychological examinations and annual thereafter to ensure the required level of physical health and ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Must attend formal basic security guard or approved equivalent school to earn formal basic security guard training credit in accordance with AFI 31-118, Security Forces Standards and Procedures.
- Must obtain and maintain qualifications and/or certifications for Emergency Management Systems, Standardized Field Sobriety Test. Other training, qualifications, or certifications may be identified post-employment and will be required as necessary.
- Must qualify and remain qualified in the use of required weapons or equipment.
- Must wear a Security Guard uniform and is required to maintain a high standard of dress and appearance based on neatness, cleanliness, safety, and uniformity.
- Must undergo an interview and initial job compatibility assessment (JCA) in accordance with AFI 31- 118,Security Forces Standards and Procedures.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting foot or vehicle patrols, administrative security operations and monitoring surveillance systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
