The primary purpose of this position is to operate andlor maintain multimedia recording and reproduction computers, audio-visual equipment assigned to the organization and computer laboratories.

Duties

- Assembles, operates, and inspects audio-visual equipment. Operates audio recording studios using DAT, cassette, reel to reel. computer CD systems, and VHS/DVD video in support of the Academics and Curriculum Divisions. - Maintains an in-house Television/ Satellite operating facility. Operates a 40 commercial channels and 20 channels in-house Satellite/ Television system that provides television broadcasts to classrooms and foreign student dormitories. - Performs preventive maintenance on Audio-Visual electronic equipment and other audio-visual systems used by DLI. Inspects and troubleshoots electronic audio/visual equipment to ensure operation efficiency in all modes. - Operates Interactive Multimedia (IMI) Equipment in a stand-alone or networked system mode. Assists TMI personnel and users in solving basic operational, set up problems associated with IMI workstations and peripherals. - Maintains instructor resource rooms and equipment. Demonstrates equipment and provides instruction on how to operate equipment such as laminators, printers, scanners, etc.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3900 - Motion Picture, Radio, Television, and Sound Equipment Operating Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of electronics to include testing, measurement, and the repair of audio/video equipment. 2. Knowledge of recording equipment operation, information processing standards, principles and techniques, and knowledge of computer basics for sound recording manipulation. 3. Knowledge of general-purpose computer equipment, communications links, and peripheral devices and standardized operating methods, techniques, and procedures to operate switches and controls, detect errors and equipment malfunctions. and correct error conditions. 4, Knowledge of television recording and signal processing. 5. Knowledge of and ability to apply audio/video equipment maintenance. 6. Skill in uploading software and minor maintenance of computer laboratory equipment in order to keep laboratories in working condition (ensure cables are connected, power on, etc.), Ability to apply knowledge of current sound recording technology and practices to include proper Digital. Analog, and Compact Disk recording medium. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to brief visitors, staff, and students on audioi-computer laboratories, television broadcasting and audio recording resources. Physical Effort: Motion picture projectionists usually stand or walk while completing assignments. They often handle objects such as reels of film in shipping cases and components of motion picture equipment which weigh up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds) and are bulky and difficult to handle. Considerable muscular effort is required in lifting and carrying equipment, and in reaching and bending to move and place it. The majority of the work is sedentary; however some standing, walking and bending is required. Occasionally, may be required to handle equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and requiring some physical effort to carry. Working Conditions: The work is normally performed inside a semi-dark clean, well-heated area. A minor amount of dust accumulates on equipment that is oiled or greased. There are some hazards involved in connection with the highly flammable nature of some types of film and danger of electrical shock and bums while changing projection lamps, tubes, and plugs. Also there is some possibility of cuts and bruises to fingers from moving sprockets and belts. The majority of the work is performed in a clean and well-heated area. There are some hazards that include the danger of shock from electricity and bums from lamps and plugs. There is also the possibility of minor cuts and bruises due to the nature of the job. When projection machines are installed to simultaneously service two projection rooms from one projection booth, the working conditions are more crowded and there is greater confusion, poor ventilation, and overheating of the projection booth. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
