The incumbent serves as a museum technician located at a museum facility in a National Park Service organization. The purpose of the position is to perform a full range of complex curatorial support work in a museum.

Duties

This positions performs curatorial support work in a museum under the direction of a professional. GS-5 Duties : Performs routine functions such as unpacking, repacking, processing, labeling, cataloging, storing objects, and cleaning objects. Prepares, maintains, and organizes manual and automated curatorial records. Performs routine research for catalog records, exhibits, and other purposes as assigned. GS-07 Duties: Performs a full range of complex curatorial support work in a museum such as: maintaining museum records, monitoring museum environment, processes incoming and outgoing loans, handles, cleans, stores, and labels objects in the permanent collection, serves as team member, and at times a team leader, on curatorial projects such as the elimination of cataloging backlogs; production of finding aids and location guides; photo documentation of collections; and the reorganization of storage areas, and assists with the design, installation, repair, and rehabilitation of exhibits. Less then FPL: Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. Career Seasonal: Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately January thru October, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/17/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Museum Technician. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include collections management, registration, cataloging, research, preservation, restoration, or conservation of collections of museum material, or other experience related to the position to be filled. GS-04 level experience may be internships, trainee positions, or entry level experience related to the operation or management of a museum or similar collection of valuable objects. You must include hours worked per week. -OR- EDUCATION: Have successfully completed a full four-year course of study (120 semester hours/180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or other courses related to the position to be filled. If your degree was not in one of the directly related fields listed in this response, you must submit a copy of your transcripts or a complete list of college courses taken that identifies for each course the college or university, semester or quarter hours earned, grade received, and date completed. You must submit transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION: Have a combination of specialized experience as described in A above and education as described in B above which total at least one year. For example, 6 months of specialized experience (50% of the specialized experience) and three years of education above high school (50% of the education) would qualify an applicant for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e. beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. You must include transcripts. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the federal service. GS-05 level experience may be routine or supportive work experience related to the operation or management of a museum or similar collection of valuable objects. You must include hours worked per week. -OR- EDUCATION: Do not have the specialized experience described above; however, successfully completed at least one (1) full academic year (18 semester hours) of related graduate level education, or superior academic achievement within a related field of study (e.g. museum studies, archival management, or history).IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: If you are using education to qualify you must document your course work and/or degree completed in your resume or other application materials you submit. You must submit a copy of your transcripts or a complete list of college courses taken that identifies for each course the college or university, semester or quarter hours earned, grade received, and date completed. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking.
