About the Position: Serves as Director, Ceremonies and Outreach for the US Army Military District of Washington (USAMDW), an Army Direct Reporting Unit (DRU) and the core staff element of the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region (JTF-NCR), a subordinate command of US Northern Command (USNORTHCOM).

Duties

Provide advice and counsel about historical precedence and relationships for all ceremonial events worldwide. Research the military requirements and regulations from the various services to ensure information is incorporated into the mission of the directorate. Coordinate ceremonial activities for visits by foreign Heads of State, Heads of Government, official and semi-official visits of foreign dignitaries, and other high-level civilian and military dignitaries. Conduct extensive ongoing coordination with each branch of the Armed Forces, the State Department, and countless other agencies. Serve as a DoD authority on all aspects of Armed Forces Special Military, Special Full Honor, and Full Honor Funerals, with comprehensive knowledge of the laws, policies, regulations, and historical precedents. Review recommendations and proposals received from offices responsible for various phases of funeral operations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. Must pass urinalysis testing as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter. Must sign DA Form 5019-R.
  • May frequently be required to work other than normal duty hours, extended hours, weekends, holidays, uncommon tour of duty, overtime and/or compensatory time.
  • Incumbent may normally be required to perform local and/or temporary duty travel (TDY) about 25% of the time away from primary duty location in connection with stated duties.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-14. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to DetailDecision MakingKnowledge Management Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-14).
