Serves as an Aviation Safety Assistant in a Flight Standards Field Office. Provides administrative support to Aviation Safety Inspectors by obtaining background data, preparing reports, reviewing applications, interviewing applicants, processing certificates, and maintaining office files.

Duties

Processes Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued airman certificates such as ground instructor, flight instructor, mechanic, repairman, and flight engineer. Interviews applicants to determine qualifications for non-complex certificates. Processes FAA authorizations such as inspection authorization, aircrew program designee, and aerobatic competency. Processes FAA issued operator and air agency certificates such as air carrier, repair stations, and approved schools. Examines applications and supporting documents for completeness, consistency of information, and assures correctness, if required.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must type 40 wpm based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Selectee will be required to report to an FAA Flight Standards Duty Location.
  • Position is telework eligible in accordance with Agency Policy.
  • PCS is not authorized.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-D, FG/GS-5. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is researching, writing, and typing non-technical and routine correspondence, distributing incoming correspondence, general office support, receiving incoming telephone calls, answers technical inquiries, and directing all other incoming calls appropriately.Qualifications must be met by the closing date of this vacancy announcement.Applicant has promotion potential to the FG-0303-7, non-competitively, once all qualification/eligibility requirements have been met.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.
