About the Position: Serves as Security Specialist under the supervision of the Omaha District's Security Officer. Executes the responsibility to develop, coordinate, execute and inspect programs designed primarily to protect the District's resources (i.e., personnel, property, facilities, operation and information) from misuse, theft, vandalism, terrorism, sabotage and related threats.
Duties
Establishes and maintains the District's physical security systems security equipment, repositories, and barriers).
Schedules and conducts internal security inspection.
Coordinates with the appropriate offices (e.g., Information Management Office, etc.) to establish protective security measures for automation and communication hardware and equipment.
Reviews classified intelligence reports, law enforcement bulletins, and other threat information for items affecting Omaha District or its personnel, especially those traveling to OCONUS or high threat areas.
Administers procedures governing classification, protection, accountability and dissemination of classified information under District Control.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Successful completion (certification) of a resident Operations Security Level II Course within one year of entrance on duty date.
- Successful completion (certification) of a Level II AT Officer course within one year of entrance on duty date.
- Successful completion of US Army Conventional Physical Security course within one year of entrance on duty date.
- Successful completion of Security Fundamentals Professional Certification within two years of entrance on duty date.
- The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Non-Critical Sensitive with Secret access security clearance for the duration of employment in this position.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.

Specialized Experience for GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Experience assisting with the management of Personnel Security for multiple offices; AND 2) Experience utilizing various electronic security systems in accordance with organizational policy. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Specialized Experience for GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Experience applying regulations to manage access and visitor control; AND 2) Experience implementing methods and techniques to accomplish personnel security objectives.?? This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
