Duties

Collect monitoring data for invasive species to inform management decisions. Participate in surveys related to wildlife monitoring, biocrust restoration projects and invasive plant documentation. Remove invasive plants and destructive vegetation via park approved removal methods. Assist in the management of pest species in accordance with an IPM plan. Provide input on restoration projects and the management of park pollinator garden.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/15/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-4 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience for a total of one year of experience. General Experience is (1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Specific examples of general experience include: general nursery or landscaping work; work on a trail or fire crew; work on a crop farm; or other general experience that meets the definition above. Specialized Experience is experience that equips the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work of the position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of at least the GS-3 grade level in the Federal service. Specific examples of specialized experience to qualify at the GS-4 level include: assisting with basic vegetation inventories, studies, and surveys; participating in site rehabilitation through soil preparation, native seed dispersal, live planting and weeding; applying/performing a variety of manual, mechanical, chemical, and/or bio-control methods in planned management of plants including: exotics (non-natives/weeds), and/or native species, etc. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least two years of education above high school in an accredited educational institution (60 semester hour or 90 quarter hours) which included at least 12 semester hours of scientific or technical courses, such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, mathematics, or other directly-related subject matter); and at least 6 semester hours of this coursework was in plant or botany-related subjects. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, six months of general experience (50% of the experience requirements for this position and grade level) combined with one year of education as outlined above (50% of the education required to qualify), which included at least 6 semester hours of scientific or technical courses, such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 3 semester hours of courses must be in plant or botany-related subjects. You must include transcripts. To qualify for this position at the GS-5 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include: collecting scientific data on vegetation; implementing/assisting with vegetation inventories, studies, and surveys; participating in site rehabilitation through soil preparation, native seed dispersal or collection, live planting and weeding; applying/performing a variety of manual, mechanical, chemical, and/or bio-control methods in planned management of plants including: exotics (non-natives/weeds), and/or native species; nursery work that required the growing and maintenance of plants in a controlled environment; monitoring or controlling vegetation pests or diseases; or other related work. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least four years of education above high school (120 semester hour or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or 24 semester hours of course work in a related field (such as in biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, ecology, or mathematics, or other directly-related subject matter); and at least 6 semester hours of this coursework was in plant or botany-related subjects. You must include transcripts.-OR-Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to one year of specialized experience. For example, six months of the specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and three years of college study from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education) which included at least 12 semester hours of related coursework of which at least 3 semester hours was in plant or botany-related subjects (50% of the related coursework required). You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
