You will serve as a SCIENTIST in the RADIATION SAFETY OFFICE of the INFRASTRUCTURE DIVISION in the CORPORATE OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT of CARDEROCK DIV NS.

Duties

You will support the Radiation Safety Officer performing work to include the recognition, evaluation, and control of radiation hazards and exposures. You will plan, develop, coordinate, and implement the Radiation Safety Program for radioactive material, particle accelerators, x-ray, radio frequency radiation (microwave), and laser equipment. You will support and negotiate with management and technical staff to ensure compliance with Navy radiation safety laws, regulations, and policies; and resolve radiation safety compliance and protection issues and problems. You will demonstrate knowledge of Federal, State, Local, and Department of the Navy radiation safety laws, regulations, and policies in order to ensure the Division's compliance with those applicable to specific operations. You will prepare program reports, documentation, recommendations, etc. dealing with time-sensitive radiation safety issues.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-03 (GS-9 through GS-11 equivalent) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: As a professional scientist performing radiation safety inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with regulations or guidance for an organization. Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must posses:

A Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus.

OR

Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A.
