You will serve as a FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTOR in the REGIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY DIVISION of NAVAL AIR STATION FALLON.
Duties
You will identify hazardous conditions or practices to determine appropriate corrective action.
You will advise building officials on corrective action needed for code violations.
You will prepare materials for situational or classroom training at installation fire prevention activities (e.g., Fire Prevention Week, Open Houses).

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations.
Qualifications
This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS-08: Fire Inspector I and II, Fire Instructor I, HAZMAT Awareness, and State or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT). If State EMT is provided must obtain NREMT within one year of appointment. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard to meet this requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Conducting fire safety training to groups; 2) Eliminating or reducing hazards where the expectancy and potential for severity is high; 3) Inspecting buildings for potential fire hazards (e.g. obstructed exits, presence of combustible materials, etc.); and 4) Adapting fire protection/prevention techniques to correct conditions or hazardous situations. NOTE: Experience must be fully supported in your resume to be considered for this position.

Physical Demands:
Work involves lifting of 10 lbs. or more, travel to off-shore islands via aircraft dependent upon area of responsibility, standing for long periods of time, stooping, crawling, crouching, walking, climbing, standing on ladders, the ability to function in enclosed or small spaces to initiate inspections or investigations. Incumbent is required to maintain an appropriate state driver's license to operate motor vehicles.
Work Environment:
The performance of work involves a mixture of office related work and exposure to a variety of hazardous conditions which may include: High noise areas, oxygen deficient/enriched atmospheres, hazardous material storage areas, spray painting operations, POL facilities, welding/cutting operations, weapons storage areas, high voltage electrical vaults/rooms, LOX areas, and construction areas or building under renovation alteration. Applicable safety and monitoring programs such as hearing conservation have been instituted for the incumbents required participation.
