In this position the Environmental Support Section Chief position serves as the first level supervisor responsible for managing assigned personnel conducting cultural resource, natural resource, environmental planning, and environmental GIS activities.

Serve as the engineering/scientific expert in the environmental conservation program ensuring mission sustainability and continuous regulatory compliance. Independently lead and guide others in formulating and executing diverse, highly complex projects to ensure short- and long-term requirements are achieved. Serve as the focal point for multiple conservation programs. Ensure optimal resource allocation by working with program managers and AFCEC Media Managers to identify all funding requirements; ensuring resources are acquired to meet regulatory compliance, in order to support conservation programs and mission execution.

Basic Requirements for General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series 0401 (opm.gov) Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. or Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Individual Occupational Requirements: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-02, equivalent to the next to lower grade GS-11 or equivalent in the Federal Service. Specialized experience must include providing expertise and technical support as a first level supervisor, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over non-supervisory employees assigned to the organization. This experience must have been at a level of difficulty and complexity sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of this position. It may have been gained in the private sector, volunteer service, military service, and/or government service, etc. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Mastery of related environmental engineering/scientific concepts, principles, and practices enabling employee to serve as technical authority on variety of issues related to environmental management. Ability to assess the impacts of proposed programs /projects on the regions environmental resources while incorporating mission needs to achieve a sustainable balance. Knowledge of a wide range of qualitative and/or quantitative methods for the assessment and improvement of plans and processes to effectively address complex regulatory requirements while employing investigative techniques to address unknown and/or uncharacterized conditions. Knowledge of Air Force and DoD environmental management program goals and objectives, AFTC mission and processes and the interrelationship for sustained operations. Skill to integrate an interdisciplinary team of professionals to include attorneys, public health specialists, public affairs specialists, biological scientists, environmental engineers, regulators, and other governmental officials, and community groups. Ability to plan, organize, and lead others in studies or projects and to negotiate effectively with management to accept and implement recommendations, where proposals involve substantial resources, and require extensive changes in established concepts and procedures. Ability to communicate to effectively, both orally and in writing; negotiate complex issues; and maintain good working relationships.
