Duties

Paints a variety of surfaces, such as building interiors, exteriors or trims, and equipment such as snow plows, blades, fire hydrants, wall lockers, guidons, flag stands and dumpsters where appearance as well as surface protection is important. Prepares surfaces, mixes paints, applies prime, intermediate and finish coats with brush, roller, or spray gun. Uses gloss, semi-gloss, and special paints, enamels, varnishes, stains, lacquers, and shellacs. Assures proper maintenance of brushes and equipment.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Painter~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common duties which include preparing surfaces for paint by removing paint, rust, and surface imperfections by hand sanding, using a wire brush, spackling, or applying putty to ensure desired end product is achieved. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official. - Physical Effort: Prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, and bucket truck where the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard-to-reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up materials and equipment that weighs up to 50 pounds. - Working Conditions: Works inside and outside. Dirt, overspray, and fumes are usually present. Is occasionally exposed to bd weather. Frequently exposed to cuts and bruises and occasionally to possibility of broken bones. Works in occupied areas and in and around other shops. Operates motor vehicle outside while being exposed to a variety of weather conditions while loading and unloading vehicles. When work requires the use of negative pressure respiratory protective equipment, employees will not have beards, sideburns, or other hair because such hair will negate the effectiveness of the respiratory equipment by preventing a proper face piece.
