You will serve as a STEAM CATAPULT- ARESSTING GEAR SYSTEM OPERATOR in the Carrier Suitability Department of Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Two Three (VX-23), Naval Test Wing Atlantic (NTWL) of NAVTESTWINGLANT NWCF. This announcement uses the Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will perform routine checks and adjustments to feed water regulators and pumps, check steam and airflow meters, fuel oil heaters, oil meters and associated equipment. You will repair, adjust, or replace mechanical controls and help troubleshoot electrical systems. You will install, maintain, and repair high temperature/pressure systems such as water, air, steam, and hydraulic. You will maintain boiler water level and steam pressures according to requirements and prescribed limits and to meet the demands for steam pressure from the console operator to preheat and operate the catapult.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1.) Installing and repairing equipment such as: boilers, continuous blow off systems, feed water control systems, heating systems, and other auxiliary equipment.; 2.) Performing routine checks and adjustments to feed water regulators and pumps; 3.) Replacing steam gland seals, ball bearing, thrust bearing and drive gear on main boiler feed pumps, booster pumps, hydraulic pumps and auxiliary pumps; 4.) Mixing and introducing chemical and compounds into the system; and 5.) Utilizing basic hand, electric and pneumatic tools, such as: drills, grinders, hammers, ratchets, sockets and wrenches of all type. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
