About the position: This position will be assigned to the Keesler Outdoor Recreation & Marina Park on Keesler Air Force Base.
This position is a flexible position. You are guaranteed 0 hours but could work up to 40 hours per week.
Duties
Under the supervision of the Supervisory Recreation Specialist (Outdoor Activities), assists in planning and conducting a range of diverse year-round outdoor adventure programs that focus on, but are not limited to, developing resiliency skills for Airmen transitioning from high-intense combat zones to home-life such as: backpacking, whitewater rafting, fishing, hiking, camping, mountain biking, rock climbing, and sky diving. Provides instruction to participants in the use of equipment and directs participation in scheduled recreational activities and programs. Recommends programs and creates an annual calendar of events for final approval. Performs administrative tasks such as preparing after actions reports, compiling and responding to customer critiques and comments, and collecting data to evaluate the effectiveness of the programs. Maintains and updates Rec-Trac Software for reservations Provides a weekly activity report to the supervisor detailing participation, expenditures, and revenue of individual programs. Trains volunteers as instructed in the aspects of conducting assigned outdoor adventure programs. Coordinates on-site educational and recreational programs as assigned. Considers factors such as ecology, resources required for development of new recreation areas. Performs other duties as assigned.

- This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifyng Experience:
Experience demonstrating a working familiarity with the routines and procedures followed in group activities or programs; and practical knowledge and/or experience of recreational activities and equipment, rules and procedures in a recreation program activity which has involved recreation work in the area of specialty in which the position is assigned; ability and skill in dealing with the public. Must have current nationally recognized certification in basic first air training and CPR. Must be able to work exposed to a variety of cold and hot weather conditions and be able to lift 40 lbs.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
