TSA seeks student interns under TSA's Student Career Internship Program (SCIP) to encourage interest in public service careers and provide valuable work experience. Students develop skills and talents that prepare them to become the next generation of leaders in the federal workforce. As a student trainee intern you will gain first- hand experience within TSA's work environment, learn about the federal government and perform a variety of tasks related to supporting TSA activities.

Duties

This Student Trainee position is located within the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). If selected for this position, you will be a Student Trainee under the TSA Student Career Internship Program (SCIP). You will be performing assigned duties under the general direction of a manager or more experienced employees. Typical duties include but are not limited to: Ensuring the accuracy of information and work products to consistently produce high-quality work. Identifying various resources required to support program operations. Contributing to accomplishing organizational missions. Researching, investigating, and reviewing requests for information and ensuring they are complete and meet basic requirements. Creating, updating and maintaining records, documents and reports using a variety of automated systems. Entering analytical data and formatting spreadsheets used for data interpretation. Student internships at TSA span across many areas of the organization under various pillars, Enterprise Support, Security Operations, Direct Reports, Operational Support, Chief of Staff, Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service. Program areas where student interns may work include but are not limited to: information technology, cybersecurity, data analytics, public policy and administration, business and financial management, human resources, communications, law and policy, civil rights and liberties, engineering, economic policy, and many more. The following is a general overview of responsibilities and expectations. Plan and complete work assignments on time. Collect and analyze relevant information. Draft quality documents. Communicate relevant and accurate information, clearly and concisely during formal and/or informal meetings. Collaborate with others to accomplish goals. Contribute to team efforts. Use various enterprise tools and technology to prepare and share documents. Provide essential support such as arranging meetings, taking notes, and responding to routine inquiries. To qualify for the SV-C Pay Band (equivalent to GS-3/4) you must have completed one (1) academic year of post-high school study in any field. An academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university. Students completing one (1) academic year of post-high school studies by May 31, 2024 can apply. To qualify at the SV-D Pay Band (equivalent to GS-5/6) you must have completion of at least four full years of full-time academic study in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Before a student performs any internship duties, an agreement between TSA, the student and the academic institution must be established. The required Agreements and Performance Expectations, Evaluation, and Schedule forms will be provided to the student upon selection into the program and must be completed prior to the start of the internship assignment. To qualify for this position, your resume must reflect the necessary requirements stated. In addition, if you have work or volunteer experience to list on your resume, please be sure to include the dates and amount of time per week you performed the work or volunteer service. To be eligible for this position you must be: Enrolled in at least a half-time course load as defined by your institution. (A student who needs to complete less than the equivalent of half an academic/vocational/technical course load in the enrollment period immediately prior to graduating is still considered a student for purposes of this program.); and Maintaining at least a 2.5 Grade Point Average on a scholastic average scale of 4.0 Before a student performs any internship duties, an agreement between TSA, the student and the academic institution must be established. The required Agreements and Performance Expectations, Evaluation, and Schedule forms will be provided to the student upon selection into the program and must be completed prior to the start of the internship assignment. If you are currently enrolled in an associate, or bachelor's program and plan to graduate before June 30, 2024, please submit your current transcripts and proof of enrollment in another undergraduate, graduate, or certificate (for-credit) program such as class schedule, acceptance letter, and enrollment email. You must be graduating from your current degree program before June 30, 2024, and be enrolled in another degree/certificate program for Fall 2025.
