All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/10/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount qualified specialized experience. BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL POSITIONS: These requirements must be met for further consideration for the position for each series (Biologist and Ecologist) Basic Requirement Biologist GS-0401-11/12: Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study or specific course requirements in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your school transcript(s) to show you meet the basic education requirement. OR A combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major, as described above (typically 24 semester hours is considered equivalent to a major in a field of study), plus appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must have been sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skill, and abilities required to perform General Biologist work, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major study in one of the appropriate fields. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your school transcript(s) to show you meet the basic education requirement. Basic Requirement for Ecologist GS-0408-11/12 Successfully complete a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree in biology, or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-11 Biologist/Ecologist Minimum Qualifications: IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: If you are using education to qualify you must document your course work and/or degree completed in your resume or other application materials you submit. Copy of Official Transcripts must be submitted with application package, or you will be rated ineligible. Transcript copies must include your name, school name, credit hours, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level of federal service that includes experience with assisting in the design, development, and management of database systems for the long-term maintenance, analysis and dissemination of natural resource-related data sets produced by past and forthcoming inventory and monitoring effects; synthesizing a wide range of data types including biological, physical, and bibliographical in both tabular and spatial formats; integrating a variety of GIS and database management software, and modifying and adapting standard software; providing technical assistance and direct professional advice and support to others; and participating in professional meetings, workshops and symposia dealing with data management and related topics to present information. OR EDUCATION: Three years progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a PhD or equivalent Doctoral degree in Biology, or related field of science underlying ecological research for the Ecologist or biological sciences, agriculture, chemistry, natural resource management, or related disciplines. OR COMBINATION: A combination of specialized experience and education as listed above that equals 100% of the qualifications standard. . GS-12 Biologist/Ecologist Minimum Qualifications EXPERIENCE: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level of federal service that includes (1) Developing business processes and workflows to ensure the long-term integrity of natural resource-related data sets, including data acquisition, data quality control, data analysis, and data dissemination; (2) Working with a variety of end users (e.g., project managers, scientists, and field personnel) to provide technical support and training; (3) Preparing and maintaining workflow documentation and metadata for spatial and tabular data; (4) Collecting and managing geospatial natural resource data using GPS and GIS software (such as ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap). Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
