The incumbent in this position serves as the Family Mental Health Specialist, part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team within the Great Plains Area Youth Regional Treatment Center (GPAYRTC), located at Wakpala, SD.
Duties
Designs, implements and administers culturally sensitive family therapy to residents and their families during the residents' stay at the GPAYRTC.
The incumbent provides and documents therapeutic and other clinical services to include individualized treatment and discharge/aftercare plans.
The incumbent will attend and participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, provide updates to staff about family treatment, help staff both track and ensure residents appropriate progress in treatment.
Provides consultation and training to staff members and the community in family assessment, dynamics, and treatment to GPAYRTC, IHS, and the community.

Basic Requirements
Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
or
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
or
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-11: 1 year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: Provides drug and alcohol/mental health assessments and treatment plans; designs, implements and administers individual and group therapy; coordinates intake and aftercare services; documents therapeutic and clinical services. Provides brief interventions and makes proper referrals; intervenes in high-risk situations.
OR
Completed 3 years (54 semester hours) of graduate level education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. that is directly related to the work of the position.
Selective Placement Factor
a current, unrestricted U.S. State license as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapy (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Independent Social Worker (LCSW) or License Professional Counselor- Mental Health (LPC-MH) in a state, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
