About the Position: U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts and recreational facilities.
Duties
Serves as Army Community Service (ACS) Specialist at the installation level with assisting Commanders with assessing, tailoring and prioritizing ACS service delivery in support of local military and Family needs.
Helps clients, who are generally aware of their situations, identify issues and provides guidance to a realistic appraisal and acceptance of capabilities.
Designs, develops, and manages a variety of educational forums and briefings to enhance community capacity.
Serves as principal advisor on career, transition, relocation, personal financial management, employment, community life, emergency/crisis assistance, personal and Family readiness, and all other related ACS services.
Consults with on and off-site community leadership officials on Soldier and Family Readiness services and related issues.

Basic Requirement for Army Community Service Specialist:
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as psychology, counseling, sociology and/or behavior science. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
-OR-
Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Assisting clients with community or qualify of life services/activities such as family readiness, career transition, or life skills; 2) Preparing briefings and/or informational materials; and 3) Assisting in arranging and/or coordinating community assistance/resources for clients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as psychology, counseling, sociology and/or behavior science. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
