Are you interested in providing safe, efficient, effective operation, and electronic maintenance of real property? If so, we are looking for an experienced Engineering Controls Technician. Apply to this announcement if you can independently install, repair, troubleshoot, and ensure the operation of electronic controls equipment and systems related to operations at NIH facilities on the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences campus.
Duties
As an Engineering Technician, you will:
Develop, test, and implement methods for evaluating, analyzing, and correcting facilities control systems malfunctions.
Analyze system failures to determine the cause (hardware field devices, system communications, programming) and make appropriate repairs or changes.
Anticipate the need for changes to current systems, recommend changes when approved, and adapt new technologies to current systems.
Develop and implement service and maintenance schedules and procedures for the systems and associated components based on a comprehensive knowledge of operating principles, trade practice, and manufacturer's recommendations.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for an Engineering Technician position at the GS-09 level, you must:
A. have 2 full years of graduate education or a master's degree directly related to the work of the position; OR
B. have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Installing and troubleshooting the operation of electronic controls, equipment, and systems; investigating project sites to determine the condition of a facility or property; recording observations and technical information; making in-progress inspections; drafting technical graphs and plots to visually explain compiled inspection data. OR
C. have a combination of post-baccalaureate education in a related field, and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
In order to qualify for an Engineering Technician position at the GS-10 level, you must: Have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing technical advice and assistance on electronic control systems to staff; developing and implementing tests and methods to analyze and resolve malfunctions and failures in electronic control systems and equipment; performing preventive maintenance on facilities systems, controls, and equipment.
