This position is located in the Agricultural Research Service, Southeast Area, Natural Products Utilization Research Unit in Oxford, MS.
In this position, you will serve as a personal assistant to the Research Leader (RL) and other professional staff and provide technical and procedural advice in support of research program administration by identifying and analyzing issues and taking or recommending action using established guidelines.
Duties
Identify, restructure, and recommend ways of eliminating, combining, simplifying or improving administrative and clerical office procedures and processes.
Serve as the primary administrative business process point of contact for the unit.
Participate in the annual Resource Management Plan process by assisting in developing and executing the annual budget and reviewing for consistency, accuracy, and procedural/reporting requirements.
Schedule conferences and meetings, including arranging logistics, preparing agendas, and notifying participants.
Complete requests for personnel actions and write and/or provide sample position descriptions, distribute forms and instructions for annual performance ratings, and ensures timely, proper completion.
Use a variety of graphical, spreadsheet, and database software packages (e.g., QuatroPro, Excel) to obtain statistical data from published reports and manipulate data to produce tables and charts for program management and administrative use.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience preparing or reviewing financial documents; using computer programs to prepare and review written documents; and providing information on policies, procedures, or guidelines.
GS-07
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience preparing or tracking financial forms or reports; maintaining detailed records or files for an office environment; coordinating all aspects of travel for staff or supervisors; and ensuring compliance with regulations for all program administrative procedures.
Applicants must be able to type 40 words per minute.
