THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0417000 and is part of the IL AASF 3, National Guard.

Duties

As a AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-8602-10, you will maintain, troubleshoot, repair, modify, and test aircraft engines. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Perform periodic and special inspections on engines. Inspect installed, repaired and modified engines and components to ensure compliance with technical publications. Interpret inspection findings to determine adequacy of repairs, modification, or corrective actions. With the aid of diagrams, schematics and technical publications, make necessary repairs and modifications. Assemble and install engines adhering to prescribed procedures, safety practices and technical requirements. Knowledgeable of applicable technical manuals and other publications pertaining to aircraft engines. Remove and disassemble aircraft engines in order to perform necessary maintenance. Install special test equipment and perform preoperational and post operational checks. Adjust, align and calibrate engine and components to ensure maximum operating efficiency consistent with design characteristics. Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctioning engines to determine degree of disassembly, repair, modification, and adjustment needed. Conduct tests of repaired components using bench mock-ups and related test equipment. Analyze inspection findings to determine extent of repairs required.

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Warrant Officer/Enlisted - May not exceed the rank of CW3. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories in accordance with technical specifications, procedures and requirements; and experience using hand and power tools common to the trade. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories; experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft engines, engine components, and power trains for fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft; and experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
