About the Position: This position is within Directorate of Industrial Operations (DIO) at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania
Duties
Determine scope of repairs using blueprints and/or diagrams.
Perform metal body construction on a variety of mobile equipment.
Use a variety of materials and fasteners to secure and seal containers.
Modify designs to improve structure seals.
Weatherproof vehicles and shelters using multiple work practices.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be willing to undergo a pre-employment and annual physical examination.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be willing to go on TDY 25% of the time.
- Must be willing to complete a 1-year probationary period.
Qualifications
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) and Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DOD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Mobile Equipment Metal Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Perform common duties of operating welding equipment, operating test equipment, and cleaning metal surfaces. Work under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
Work requires frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, and handling of objects weighing 35-50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Stands, stoops, kneels, climbs, bends, and works for long periods in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Generally works inside on concrete floors in a well-lighted area. Exposed to drafts and extremes of temperature. Is constantly exposed to noise, dust, smoke, gases, and dense and harmful volatile vapors and fumes. Is required to wear protective clothing such as respirators and welding equipment. Employee is subject to cuts, bruises, burns, eye injury, electric shock, and health hazards from working with harmful chemical compounds.
