This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage of candidates.
Duties
Provide technical expertise and leadership performing science within the NIST cancer biomarker program in the areas of measurement methods, assay validation, data analysis, and development of reference materials; perform biomolecular analysis of cancer biomarkers and candidate reference materials to improve the quality of the measurement of biomolecular targets (biomarkers) for the detection and monitoring of cancer. The staff member will also provide technical expertise to NIST viral vector projects. The staff member will perform techniques including ddPCR, cell culture, DNA quantification, and cell line engineering, as well as analyze and document the work using accurate recording of methods and data. Results will be presented in written reports and oral presentations within NIST and through engagement with external stakeholders.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In Addition: All applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the GS-12 level (ZP-III at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience in genetics, molecular biology, cell culture, and viral vectors.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
